Pocket Watch by Omicron91 Pocket Watch by Omicron91
Reuploaded because I had to make a few corrections, sorry :(

Any, this is my pocket watch vector trace. It took about 30 hours to complete and consists of:

8800 Points
1369 Paths
147 Gradient Meshes
61 Compound Paths
As far as I can tell there's 140 layers, but there's at least 4-500 sub layers.

Enjoy! Critique is welcome!

EDIT: Daily Deviation :o, Wow! Thank you so much everyone!

Here's the Pocket Watch Wireframe
for anyone who wanted it :)

Also, to anyone wondering, I know the roman numeral for 4 is IV but most pocket watches have it as IIII, so who am I to complain? :D

But the clocks that have IIII are wrong, roman numeral has a character rule.

Im a huge fan of watches. This is just a design right? Because if this is real Id love to know where I can buy it. And if this ever got made into a wristwatch Id be that much happier.

I have been looking all over for a poketwatch that looks like this, it been 3 years since youve probably looked at the coments but i am very pleased to see that people still take there time with fine work like this, very well done and i am extreamly happy to see this and i would pay any price to have this lovely piece of work. please make more of these and send them to (if thats not to much to ask) as in a few years I could get you a job as making designs for professional pocket watches.

does this watch actually exist somewhere in physical/holdable form or did you make it up?

either way, really really fantastic :D

a critique. If the words Stephen j. ashton clockworks was reflecting in that manner(upright) then they would have been stamped on the actual watch upside down witch I do believe doesn't happen. other than that i would have added some texture to the mechanisms so they did not look so digital, no offense. You did a damn fine job of the rendering. Just those few things stood out. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, you are right, it would have been upside down, haha! I can't believe I didn't pick up on that. I might leave just because that's my name and it was my way of watermarking this image without adding some ugly thing on top.

As for the texture thing, it's really hard to get it to get textures to look right in raster graphics, especially on top of gradient mesh.

It's really good, but what happens to the day hand on the watch when there's thrity one days in a month? You only put thirty.
Reply
:iconomicron91:
Omicron91 Featured By Owner Apr 24, 2009
I'm not sure, there's only so much you can do with mechanical watches, so I'm guessing the owner of the watch had to adjust it month to month.

That may seem like a pain in the ass until you realize it had to be wound every day anyway.

So crazy awesome @_@

small question: how come the 31 and 1 are stuck together?
Reply
:iconomicron91:
Omicron91 Featured By Owner Apr 24, 2009
It probably counted as the same day, letting the owner of the watch know they had to update the date.
